Bob's Garage

You hear the bass rattling the aluminum door frames long before you hit Freeport Road in Pittsburgh on a Friday night. Bob's Garage doesn't care about looking pretty, and that's why it's packed from wall to wall every single weekend. The guy checking IDs at the front entrance doesn't smile at all, he just nods you past the faded neon beer signs into a thick haze of stale smoke and spilled draft. It's loud, sticky, and you're stepping on crushed bottle caps the second you cross the threshold.

The stage sits crammed right up against the corner drywall, barely big enough for a battered drum kit and a couple of heavy guitar amps. There's no fancy lighting rig here, just a couple of flickering colored bulbs swinging overhead while local punk bands thrash away in front of a sweaty crowd. You can't hear yourself think over the cymbal crash, but nobody's complaining because the cheap domestic cans keep flowing from the heavily scratched wooden bar.

Someone left a dented bass case leaning against the cigarette machine by the back restrooms, and you're dodging flying elbows just trying to squeeze toward the speaker stack to catch the final guitar chords before someone spills a drink on your sneakers.
